Johnny Five is alive
WALL-E is sitting at 98% on RT right now, and this Gizmodo review raves about it. I might have to scrape up the 4 bucks and go downtown and catch it. Pixar for the win!

Weezer has a new album coming out, and here’s the video for the first single. Ummmm…it’s weird. Like, every single YouTube Internet meme is featured. And what’s with the porn ’stache Rivers Cuomo is sporting?
As for the new album (Red album?), I’ll probably check it out, at least listen to some samples on Amazon or something. I haven’t really followed Weezer since I bought Maladroit, but still think of the original Blue Album and Pinkerton as their best work. The Green Album was alright, but it seemed like they were getting to poppy for my tastes.
On a similar note, the 90s really are coming back, aren’t they? Smashing Pumpkins had a new album, now Weezer and The Offspring are back, too. Do the last 3 or 4 decades just perpetually repeat?
Season finales and a Scrubs bombshell
Well, after a handfull of episodes since the writer’s strike, most of the TV shows have been wrapping things up lately. Some of my thoughts on the endings:
- The Office - wow, this is what it’s all about. When it’s running on all cylinders, The Office is the best show on television, hands down. There must be a law that if there is a Jim-Dwight prank involved, an episode will be great. So many things happened in here, I think it ranks with the top episodes of the previous seasons. A great finale, and I’m gonna go download some N3Ps from Amazon now…
- Scrubs - more on this below, but at face value I thought this final sucked. After looking more into it, I understand what’s going on better, and it’s disappointing about the whole mess that has happened to this show. Here’s hoping that they regroup and get things straightened out for next year….otherwise, at least we have reruns on Comedy Central.
- CSI - wow, what an ending! Even though almost every other crime drama on TV this year ended with a main character dying or getting shot or something, CSI still brought it strong. Thoroughly enjoyed it!
- Criminal Minds - we started watching this lately, and it’s actually pretty good. The final episode had a great premise, and ended with a bang. Will definitely be looking forward to next season, and we’ll have to check out the earlier seasons on Netflix.
Now, for the stuff about Scrubs. I came across this mammoth interview of Bill Lawrence on TV Squad, and it is packed with things about this season, about next season, about the season-after-next (?!), about the final episode, about NBC vs ABC, about everything. It’s long, but if you’re a fan take the time to read it all. Essentially, thanks to NBC for screwing everything up, and the writers strike for being the catalyst. Good job!
The greatest video game review ever?
I found the following video review of Super Smash Bros. Brawl by The Escapist: Zero Punctuation to be highly entertaining. Especially the follow up response to his critics! (Probably not safe for work, or wear with headphones!)
Signs of the political apocalypse?
Wow, there may be a new low in this year’s Presidential election season…here’s Jon Stewart telling it like it is:
Nothing like pandering to your heavy political demographic of 14-year-old boys, right? Here’s the full segment. I have to say it’s like watching a trainwreck, horrible yet magnificent at the same time. I think McCain’s is the most awkward, although “Hill-Rod” is quite possibly the lamest nickname ever.
Mixtapes for the web generation
Oh, wow, this is cool. I’ve seen this mentioned in a couple different places now; Muxtape is a SIMPLE way to create and share MP3 playlists online. You sign up fast (just give a username, password, and email address) and then are given a blank slate to upload up to 12 MP3s to share with the world. You point people to yourusername.muxtape.com and they are greeted with a minimalist playlist to listen to the songs streamed over the Interweb. Alas, I don’t think I have any songs I can actually legally upload, but I love the concept.
I’ve having a field day just browsing the playlists. What an eclectic collection! I’m rocking to alexlines right now…it feels akin to browsing YouTube or Wikipedia for random things…..just stumbling on new crazy stuff! Now all I want is a direct link to be able to download songs (or even the entire list!) from Amazon…

I finally found it! An actual updated list (even with RSS!) of the books featured on The Daily Show and The Colbert Report!
Who’s that Spartan in my tee-pee?
Come on, Internet. Where’s my archive of SNL cheerleader skits? YouTube, you fail.
Where the Wild Things Are
I remember hearing something awhile back about a Where the Wild Are movie being made, and I was skeptical of how a live action adaptation would work. Today I saw floating through the Internets this leaked clip, and you need to check it out. Even if it is a pre-production, the special effects are great. This could be fun!
Knight Rider (2008) (2)
Who caught tonight’s premier of Ford’s two-hour commercial….er, the new Knight Rider? I haven’t seen a cargasm like that since GM’s Transformers movie last year. And who knew that the Ford Edge could hang with a Mustang GT in a car chase?
All in all, I give it a solid “meh”. There’s the original theme, so that’s cool. Decent chase scenes, but they’re ruined for me by the gratuitous focus on the Mustang Cobra emblem, and that they zoom in on every friggin’ Ford vehicle (which is almost every one in this fantasy world) during it. Bad guys which are at once ruthless killers and yet strangely inept at their jobs at the same time. Way to hire the best anonymous crime lord. But it also had the Hoff at the end, too. So who knows….maybe I’ll give it another shot since they had to establish a lot of background for this one.
Personally, I’m still waiting for the Knight Rider / Airwolf crossover event.
On a related note, I happened to finally watch the movie Death Proof this weekend, which stars Sydney Tamiia Poitier - who also happens to be the FBI agent in the new Knight Rider. Whoa! If you haven’t seen it, check it out. It’s an intense, awesome movie. Tarantino rocks.
