I recently received an email from my bank, “MS Money Upgrade Notice from MSUFCU”, about how my fancy version of Microsoft Money 2005 will no longer work after September 1:

Beginning September 1, 2007, Microsoft will begin expiring the online service for the following Microsoft Money versions:

  • MS Money 2004 and 2005
  • MS Money 2006
  • MS Money Essentials

If you own one of the above versions of Microsoft Money, you will not be able to directly download your transaction history from MSUFCU or any other financial institution you have set up for direct downloads after the online service expiration date.

MS Money expiration dates in detail:

MS Money Version Online Service Expiration Date
2004 and 2005 September 1, 2007
2006 Microsoft offered two (2) years of online service from the date of first use to MS Money 2006 users.
Depending on date of first use, online service will expire between October 31, 2007 and September 1, 2008.
Essentials Microsoft offered one (1) year of online service from the date of first use to MS Money Essentials users.
Depending on date of first use, online service will expire between October 31, 2007 and September 1, 2008.

Yes! So my perfectly working MS Money 2005 that I got free-after-rebate a couple years back, which was fine up until now, will automagically stop working in a few days. Of course they offered the solution of buying the current version of MS Money. Thanks, but I think I’ll pass. Guess it’s back to an Excel OpenOffice spreadsheet.
