Tax Software Pricing Comparison (1)
It’s that time again, and normally I already have done my taxes and received my refund already. But I haven’t (more on that below), and I wanted to pass along this link that compares the total costs, including e-filing, of the major tax preparation softwares. It’s pretty in-depth, and shows where to get more bang for your buck.
Speaking of taxes, it’s an added bonus that getting married gives Uncle Sam permission to bend you over even further than normal. For most of last year, we had taxes withheld as single adults, but because we were married as of December 31, we now have to file as Married, with all the benefits that come with that. Woohoo! I’ll just use this as a chance to throw a shoutout to a Fair Tax, which doesn’t sound that bad. But hey, if something was good for the people of this country, it obviously wouldn’t be good for the corporations and politicians running the show, right? Anyway, check out the link above!
sweet, nice work pete
Very nice Pete! Have you tried out http://www.onepricetaxes.com? I’ve been using them for 2 years now and they give their total price up front, which I love!
Hi, thanks for writing and for the link update! It’s funny after reading this post and complaining last year about getting hosed by the government, that we actually got hit *even worse* this year in taxes. Gahhhh!
As for software, the last couple years our insurance company has offered TurboTax free of charge, for both state and federal filing. We went that route this year, but when it said we owed a ton of money, decided since we just got a house and all that we should go to a professional just to double check.
Long story short, the maroon of a person who did our taxes sucked. She didn’t find any hidden deductions, nor save us any money. We actually had to *pay* her, as opposed to doing it online ourselves for free. On top of all that, she didn’t even e-file it. :-/ she hand-wrote out everything, we had to sign it, put stamps on envelopes, and mail all the crap in to 5 different places. We had to mail checks in in some cases, and *wait* for checks to come from refunds from other places. We’re actually still waiting on one refund, and it’s been ~2 months. Sigh…..I hate f-ing taxes.
