I had the distinct pleasure of stumbling on an old copy I had around of Transformers: The Movie this weekend. What am I to do but relive some childhood memories and watch it again, right? Some thoughts:

This was made a long time ago. 1986 to be exact. Damn, I remember watching it as a kid….I don’t know I saw it in theaters or not, but still, that’s a long time ago. And the movie shows it’s age. Maybe it was a bad copy, but whoa, the animation was oooold school.

I didn’t realize Leonard Nimoy played a voice in the movie.

A lot of people die. I remembered that Optimus Prime got killed, but I’d forgotten how many others bit it, too. You’d think it was X3 or something.

At one part in the movie Spike (a human that helps the Autobots) and Bumblebee (you know who I’m talking about) think they narrowly escaped certain doom. Then they realize they haven’t. Spike then says something to the effect of “Oh, shit!”. What??? I backed up, watched it again, and it really sounded like he yelled “Oh, shit!”. In a kid’s movie?!? Maybe my copy was messed up…but IMDB and Wikipedia both confirm that I’m not crazy. Wow, that one flew over my head as a kid.

All good stuff nonetheless. It brought back some good ol’ memories for sure. I wonder if I can still get a Megatron toy on ebay? While reading the Wiki page, I also saw there’s a full length G.I. Joe movie - suh-weet! I might have to check that out! :-P
