This past weekend I had my first experience going to the movies in Indiana. We went to see Wedding Crashers at the Cinemark Movies 14 in Mishawaka. First, let me say that the movie is AWESOME. Definitely go see it. Vince Vaughn is just fun to watch, and Owen Wilson is great, too. Plus, there’s plenty of boobs, too
.
Before I get to my rant, let me give some background. I’ve read news articles about people being upset at commercials and trailers before movies start. I saw something awhile back about people wanting to introduce legislation to force theaters to give two different start times. I thought that was a waste of goverment time, and never really thought it was an issue. Places in Lansing have your normal ads while you wait, then when the movie time starts they play a few trailers, and then you’re on to the feature presentation. I like the trailers, too, as that is usually the way I find out about new movies. Anyway….
Our movie started at 4:25. Of course, we got there 10 minutes early or so to get a seat. When the showtime arrived, we proceeded to have to sit through roughly a half hour of ads and trailers! What the hell?!? It started off with probably 10-15 minutes of commercials. The same crap you see on commercial TV – Verizon, Coke, other cell phone crap. Dammit. Then after sitting through commercial after commercial, we had another 10-15 minutes of previews. Which normally wouldn’t be bad except we were pissed off at having just wasted that time watching their damn commercials. It pretty much soured the mood, and even though the movie was great, I doubt we’ll be going back to that theater at least anytime in the near future.
This whole thing is foreign to me. In all my movie-going in the Lansing area, I’ve never experienced such a rotten atmosphere. Cinemark wasn’t even that nice of a theater. Hell, they crowd everyone buying tickets into one small booth area in the very front. Nothing like NCG back home. I don’t know if thats the norm for the area, or maybe its just bad luck that we picked that theater. Lets just say that they won’t be getting our business again anytime soon.

Yeah, I think that is the only big theater here…maybe there is a hidden one I don’t know about…oh, the mall, but I think that’s it. Another reason why Indiana sucks!

I agree, Wedding Crashers is easily the funniest movie of the summer. The scene with the ladies tastefully falling into beds was my favorite. I would definitely rate it a 15 out of 10.
